"Queen Charlotte" of Great Britain
When
Adolf Frederick III, reigning duke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz
died in 1733, his son Adolf Frederick IV took over ( A portrait
of him, dated 1763 and the only known portrait by Esther Denner,
is in the collection of the University of Greifswald). Adolf
Frederick IV and Sophie Charlotte´s Mother signed the
marriage contract with the British King George III of the
House of Hanover. Sophie Charlotte married George III at the
age of 17 in the year 1761.
